Jinshan Temple (Kaitai Jinshan Temple) Introduction

Jinshan Temple, built nearly 150 years ago, is the center of faith for residents in Jinshan District of Hsinchu City and nearby Zhudong and Baoshan. During the Lunar New Year and festivals, worshippers come to pay their respects throughout the night. In the days before the Science Park was developed, the surrounding area was shaded by dense trees, resembling an ancient temple deep in the mountains, creating a pilgrim-like atmosphere when visiting Jinshan Temple to burn incense. Jinshan Temple is an architectural structure from the mid-Qing Dynasty, designed as a single courtyard temple with three bays and guardian dragons on either side. The earthen brick walls and brick structure exude a sense of rustic beauty, and the stone lion statues at the entrance are of a primitive yet vigorous design, showcasing significant historical value. The temple primarily enshrines Guanyin Bodhisattva, who is regarded as the guardian deity of Lin Hecheng's reclamation project. In 1853, the land was donated by the pioneer Guo family to build a hut named Xianglian An, which has undergone multiple reconstructions to reach its current scale.
