Dujiao Creek constructed wetland Introduction
Lujiao River Artificial Wetland covers an area of 16 hectares, located at the confluence of Dahan River and its tributary, Lujiao River, named for its resemblance to deer antlers. Originally a landfill, the site was transformed into an artificial wetland by the New Taipei City Government's High Ground Engineering Management Office, using aquatic plants and natural purification methods to improve the water quality of the Dahan River. It is New Taipei City's first on-site wastewater treatment facility certified by the Environmental Protection Administration. The Lujiao River Wetland simulates a natural wetland environment, serving as a transition zone between terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, providing habitats for aquatic, terrestrial, and amphibious life. Urban wastewater is filtered layer by layer through the wetland ecological ponds, alleviating river pollution and also contributing to water resource conservation and regulating buffer for heavy rainfall. The Lujiao River ecological wetland features a bike path across the Dahan River, making it ideal for cycling visitors. The wetland offers a favorable habitat for numerous species, including birds, insects, fish, plants, and amphibians, totaling several hundred species, making it an excellent outdoor natural ecology classroom and recreational space. Many small fish and organisms inhabit the river, attracting numerous birds for feeding, and during specific seasons, visitors can enjoy the stunning view of blooming lotus flowers in the “Ecological Pond Area.”
