Lujiao River Artificial Wetland Introduction
The Lujiao Creek Wetland covers an area of 16 hectares, located at the confluence of Dahan Creek and its tributary Lujiao Creek, named for its antler-like shape. The wetland was formerly a landfill site but was transformed into an artificial wetland by the New Taipei City Government's High Coastal Engineering Management Office, utilizing aquatic plants and natural purification methods to enhance the water quality of Dahan Creek. It is the first on-site sewage treatment facility in New Taipei City certified by the Environmental Protection Administration. The Lujiao Creek Wetland simulates the environment of a natural wetland, positioned as a transitional zone between terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, providing habitat for aquatic, terrestrial, and amphibious species. Urban wastewater is filtered layer by layer through the wetland's ecological pools, alleviating river pollution while also conserving water resources and regulating acute rainfall. The cycling paths of Dahan Creek run through the Lujiao Creek Wetland, making it ideal for biking. The wetland offers a favorable habitat for the restoration of wildlife, with hundreds of species of birds, insects, fish, plants, and amphibians living in the area, serving as an excellent outdoor natural ecology classroom and recreational space. The creek water is home to many small fish and organisms, attracting numerous birds to forage. During specific seasons, large areas of lotus flowers bloom in the "ecological pool area," creating beautiful scenery.
