Deer Horn Creek Artificial Wetland Introduction
Lujiao Creek Wetland covers an area of 16 hectares and is located at the confluence of the Dahan Creek and its tributary, Lujiao Creek, named for its antler-like shape. Originally a landfill, the wetland was transformed into an artificial wetland by the New Taipei City Government's High-Salt Land Engineering Management Office, utilizing aquatic plants and natural purification methods to improve the water quality of the Dahan Creek. It is the first on-site wastewater treatment facility in New Taipei City certified by the Environmental Protection Agency. The Lujiao Creek Wetland simulates the environment of natural wetlands, positioned in the transitional zone between terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, providing habitat for aquatic, terrestrial, and amphibious organisms. Urban wastewater is filtered through the wetland's ecological pools, relieving river pollution, and enhancing water conservation and rainwater buffering capabilities. The Dahan Creek Bicycle Path passes through the Lujiao Creek Ecological Wetland, making it an ideal location for biking. The wetland offers a conducive habitat for the revival of various biological species, including hundreds of types of birds, insects, fish, plants, and amphibians, making it an excellent outdoor natural ecological classroom and recreational space. The creek is home to many small fish and organisms, attracting numerous birds for feeding, and during certain seasons, one can witness the beautiful sight of vast lotus flowers blooming in the "Ecological Pool Area."
