Deer Horn Creek Constructed Wetland Introduction
The Lu Jiao Creek Artificial Wetland spans 16 hectares and is located at the confluence of the Dahan Creek and its tributary, Lu Jiao Creek, named for its resemblance to deer antlers. The wetland was transformed from a former landfill through the efforts of the New Taipei City Government's High Flood Hazard Area Engineering Management Office into an artificial wetland that employs aquatic plants and natural purification methods to improve the water quality of the Dahan Creek. It is the first on-site wastewater treatment facility in New Taipei City certified by the Environmental Protection Administration. The Lu Jiao Creek wetland, which mimics the environment of natural wetlands, is situated in the transition zone between terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, providing habitat for aquatic, terrestrial, and amphibious organisms. Urban wastewater is filtered through the layers of the wetland ecological pond, alleviating river pollution, and it also serves to recharge water resources and regulate rainfall runoff. Cycling enthusiasts can enjoy the Dahan Creek Bicycle Path that runs through the Lu Jiao Creek ecological wetland, making it an excellent spot for biking. The wetland offers a favorable habitat for the rehabilitation of various species, with the presence of hundreds of species including birds, insects, fish, plants, and amphibians, making it a fantastic outdoor natural ecology classroom and recreational area. The creek is home to many small fish and organisms, attracting numerous birds for feeding. During certain seasons, visitors can also witness the stunning sight of blooming lotus flowers in the "Ecological Pond Area."
