Deer Horn Stream Constructed Wetland Introduction
Lujiao Creek Artificial Wetland covers an area of 16 hectares and is located at the confluence of the Dahan Creek and its tributary, Lujiao Creek. It is named for its shape resembling deer antlers. The wetlands were previously a landfill site, which was transformed into an artificial wetland by the New Taipei City Government’s High Ground Engineering Office. It utilizes aquatic plants and natural purification methods to improve the water quality of the Dahan Creek, becoming the first sewage on-site treatment facility in New Taipei City certified by the Environmental Protection Administration. The Lujiao Creek Wetland, mimicking a natural wetland environment, is situated in the transition zone between terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, providing habitats for aquatic, terrestrial, and amphibious creatures. Urban sewage is filtered through layers in the wetland ecological pools, alleviating river pollution and also serving to conserve water sources and regulate sudden heavy rainfall. The Lujiao Creek ecological wetland is integrated with the Dahan Creek Bicycle Path, making it very suitable for cycling. The wetland provides a favorable habitat for the restoration of wildlife, hosting hundreds of species including birds, insects, fish, plants, and amphibians, making it an excellent outdoor natural ecology classroom and recreational space. There are many small fish and other organisms in the creek, attracting numerous birds to forage. During certain seasons, large areas of lotus blossoms can be seen in the "Ecological Pool Area."
