Lujiao Creek Constructed Wetland Introduction
Lujiao River Artificial Wetland covers an area of 16 hectares and is located at the confluence of the Dahan River and its tributary, Lujiao River, named for its antler-like shape. The wetland was formerly a landfill and was transformed into an artificial wetland by the New Taipei City Government's Coastal Engineering Management Office. It purifies the water quality of the Dahan River using aquatic plants and natural purification methods, making it the first sewage onsite treatment facility in New Taipei City certified by the Environmental Protection Administration. The Lujiao River Wetland, known as the kidney of the Dahan River, simulates the environment of natural wetlands and serves as a transition zone between terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, providing habitats for aquatic, terrestrial, and amphibious organisms. Urban wastewater is filtered through the ecological pools of the wetland, alleviating river pollution while also enhancing water conservation and regulating rapid rainfall buffering. The Lujiao River Ecological Wetland is equipped with cycling paths that traverse the Dahan River, making it ideal for bicycle tours. The wetland offers a favorable habitat for biodiversity, hosting hundreds of species, including birds, insects, fish, plants, and amphibians, making it an excellent outdoor natural ecology classroom and recreational space. The creek is home to many small fish and organisms, attracting numerous birds to forage. In certain seasons, large areas of lotus flowers can be seen blooming in the “ecological pool area.”
