Zhongtun Wind Farm Introduction
Zhongtun, an ancient name, was originally known as Zhongdun, named for its location between Penghu Main Island and Baisha Island, forming a mound. After the retrocession of Taiwan, it was phonetically changed to Zhongtun. The construction of Yong'an Bridge and Zhongzheng Bridge later connected Baisha to the north and Penghu Main Island to the south. Subsequently, with the building of cross-sea bridges, Magong, Huxi, Baisha, and Xiyu townships and cities were linked together. The wind farm is located in Zhongtun Village, Baisha Township, Penghu County, and began commercial operation in October 2001. The wind farm is situated at the Zhongtun Second Nursery and is currently planned to be developed into a wind turbine park, becoming a famous tourist attraction and a new landmark in Baisha Township, Penghu County. This wind farm is the second of its kind in Taiwan and features the third generation of wind turbines in Penghu. The second phase of the wind turbine units has a total of eight units, each capable of generating 600 kilowatts, with a computer-controlled variable speed function. As wind conditions change, the angles of the blades can also adjust accordingly, allowing the rotation speed to change with power generation demand, thus maintaining stable output power. The principle of wind power generation involves using wind to drive the turbine blades in rotation, which, through a gearbox, increases the rotational speed to generate electricity. The Zhongtun unit can generate power with a wind speed of about 2.5 meters per second. The location of a wind farm must have long wind periods, high average wind speeds, stable winds unobstructed by barriers, and suitable geographical conditions to reduce investment costs and increase electricity output. The eight gigantic turbine units are the most prominent and eye-catching landmarks in Penghu. They can be seen in the music videos of Xu Huixin’s "Give Love a Holiday," Jiang Meiqi’s "Dear, Why Aren't You By My Side," Liu Ye's "Love Without Borders, Targeting This Life," and Zhan Yawen's "Deceiving Many," as well as in many advertisements. The white-shaped windmills are not only popular photography spots but are also one of the romantic landmarks in Penghu.
