Fuyang Eco Park Introduction
Fuyang Natural Ecology Park is located at the end of Fuyang Street in the Daan District of Taipei City, just a 5-minute walk from the Lin Guang MRT Station, covering an area of 3.8 hectares. Since the Japanese colonial period, this site was used as an ammunition depot, and after the end of Japanese rule, it served as a military garrison until it was vacated in 1988. In 2000, the Taipei City Government announced the site as a park and began to manage the land allocation annually. From 2005 to 2006, the Public Works Department's Park and Street Lights Engineering Office planned and conducted the construction of the park. The park features eight major themed areas, including: Entrance Interpretation Area, Ecological Stream Restoration Area, Cultural and Historical Exhibit Area, Natural Succession Area, Butterfly Observation Area, Giant Flying Squirrel Observation Area, Taipei Tree Frog Observation Area, and Cicada Song Relaxation Area. Among these, the Natural Ecological Succession Area, Butterfly Observation Area, Giant Flying Squirrel Observation Area, and Taipei Tree Frog Observation Area host various plants such as fragrant nanmu, acacia, Chinese white poplar, and bloodwood, alongside thousands of trees and animals including tree frogs, butterflies, and giant flying squirrels. The surrounding village houses, preserved bunkers, culverts, and the weathered stone steps bear witness to the hard work of soldiers who carved through the landscape. Walking through the park feels like connecting with the spirits of the past. Due to long-term military control, the park has been isolated from human interference, allowing the entire valley to maintain an ecological landscape almost identical to that of over a century ago. The park boasts rich biodiversity, with the sounds of insects and birds, preserving low-altitude forests and streams, making it a rare ecological paradise in the city.
