Fuyang Nature Ecological Park Introduction

Fuyuan Natural Ecological Park is located at the end of Fuyuan Street in the Daan District of Taipei City, just a 5-minute walk from the Linyuan MRT Station, covering an area of 3.8 hectares. Since the Japanese occupation period, the site served as an ammunition depot. After the end of World War II, it was occupied by the National Armed Forces until its withdrawal in 1988. In 2000, the Taipei City Government designated the area as park land and began the land allocation process over the years. From 2005 to 2006, the Public Works Department's Park and Street Light Engineering Management Office carried out planning and design for new construction. The park features eight major themed areas, including: Entrance Information Area, Ecological Stream Rehabilitation Area, Cultural and Historical Exhibition Area, Natural Succession Area, Butterfly Appreciation Area, Greater Sugar Glider Observation Area, Taipei Tree Frog Observation Area, and the Chirping Cicadas Rest Area. Among these, the Natural Succession Area, Butterfly Appreciation Area, Greater Sugar Glider Observation Area, and Taipei Tree Frog Observation Area host various plants, including sweet-scented nanmu, acacia, white reed, and bloodwood, as well as thousands of trees and animals such as tree frogs, butterflies, and greater sugar gliders. The surrounding veteran village houses, preserved bunkers, culverts, and weathered stone steps showcase the efforts of the soldiers who chiseled them out, immersing visitors in a sense of connection to the past. Due to long-term military control, the park has been shielded from human interference, allowing the valley to maintain an ecological landscape that is nearly the same as that of over a century ago. With its rich forest diversity and the sounds of insects and birds, it preserves low-altitude forests and streams, making it a rare ecological paradise in the city.
