Fuyang Natural Ecology Park Introduction
Fuyang Natural Ecology Park is located at the end of Fuyang Street in the Da'an District of Taipei City, just a 5-minute walk from the Lin Guang MRT Station, covering an area of 3.8 hectares. Since the Japanese colonial era, this site has been used as an ammunition storage, and after the end of Japanese rule, it served as a military garrison until it was vacated in 1988. In 2000, the Taipei City Government designated the current site for park use and gradually handled land allocation. Between 2005 and 2006, the Public Works Department's Park and Street Light Engineering Office planned and designed the new construction of the park. The park features eight main themed areas, including: Entrance Interpretation Area, Ecological Stream Restoration Area, Cultural Heritage Exhibition Area, Natural Succession Area, Butterfly Appreciation Area, Taiwan Red-Squirrel Observation Area, Taipei Tree Frog Observation Area, and Cicada Sound Relaxation Area. Among these, the Natural Ecology Succession Area, Butterfly Appreciation Area, Taiwan Red-Squirrel Observation Area, and Taipei Tree Frog Observation Area are home to various plants, including fragrant nanmu, acacia, white gourd, and bloodwood, with thousands of trees and animals such as tree frogs, butterflies, and Taiwan Red Squirrels. The surrounding veteran village residences, preserved bunkers, culverts, and ancient stone steps bear witness to the hard labor of soldiers who carved their way through, creating a sense of spiritual connection with the old generation. Due to long-term military management, the park has remained isolated from human interference, maintaining an ecological landscape almost identical to that of over a century ago. The rich forest scenery, the sounds of insects and birds, and the preservation of low-elevation forests and streams make this park a rare ecological paradise in the city.
