Fuyang Eco Park Introduction
Fuyang Ecological Park is located at the end of Fuyang Street in the Daan District of Taipei City, just a 5-minute walk from the Lin Guang MRT Station, covering an area of 3.8 hectares. Originally used as an ammunition depot during the Japanese colonial period, it was occupied by the National Army after the retrocession of Taiwan until 1988. In 2000, the Taipei City Government designated the site as park land and gradually handled land allocation issues. From 2005 to 2006, the Public Works Bureau's Park and Street Lamp Engineering Management Office planned and designed the new construction of the park. The park features eight main thematic areas, including: the Entrance Explanation Area, Ecological Stream Restoration Area, Cultural and Historical Display Area, Natural Succession Area, Butterfly Observation Area, Sugar Glider Observation Area, Taipei Tree Frog Observation Area, and the Cicada Sound Relaxation Area. Among these, the Natural Ecological Succession Area, Butterfly Observation Area, Sugar Glider Observation Area, and Taipei Tree Frog Observation Area host a variety of plants such as Phoebe zhennan, Acacia confusa, and Ficus awkeotsang, along with thousands of trees and animals including tree frogs, butterflies, and sugar gliders. The surrounding military village houses, preserved bunkers, culverts, and weathered stone steps bear witness to the laborious efforts of soldiers who carved out these spaces, creating an atmosphere of spiritual connection with the past. Due to long-term military control, the park has been isolated from human disturbances, allowing the valley to maintain an ecological landscape similar to that of over a century ago. With its rich forest ecology, chirping insects, and singing birds, the park preserves vital low-elevation forests and streams, making it a rare ecological paradise in the city.
