Shanshui Green Ecological Park Introduction
Shan Shui Green Ecological Park is a recreational area built on the site of the garbage sanitary landfill at Shanzikou in Nangang, which was rehabilitated and opened on October 27, 2013. Covering an area of 21 hectares, it is the largest park in Nangang District and a great place for citizens to relax, injecting new vitality into the area. The Shanzikou sanitary landfill is located in the southeastern corner of Nangang, bordering the Shenkeng District of New Taipei City, named after the Shanzikou Valley. It is the second standard sanitary landfill in Taipei City, covering approximately 65 hectares, with a landfill area of 30 hectares and a capacity of about 6.17 million cubic meters. Of the landfill area, 21 hectares have been completed and converted into green space through vegetation rehabilitation, transforming its appearance significantly from the original landfill site. This change evokes the imagery described in the poem "Fisherman" by the Tang dynasty poet Liu Zongyuan, reflecting the essence of "green mountains and water," hence the name "Shan Shui Green Ecological Park." Inside Shan Shui Green Ecological Park, many facilities were constructed using existing abandoned structures from the site, and interactive and educational interpretation facilities with game elements have been set up. Additionally, every Saturday and Sunday from 10 AM to 4 PM, traditional children's games (such as stilt walking, hoop rolling, and spinning tops) and bicycles are available for public use free of charge. The park's expansive grounds also provide an excellent place for kite flying. The observation deck within the park offers distant views of the Nangang urban area and the Neihu Mountain area during the day, while at night, visitors can enjoy the night scenery of National Highways 3 and 5, making it the best recreational spot for families to connect with nature and experience the ecology.
