Linyuan Anle Building Introduction
Anle Building is a Baroque-style architecture built around 1930. During the Japanese colonial period, it served as a Japanese military officers' club, later transformed into a restaurant and inn. It was once a gathering place for merchants, writers, and gentlemen, filled with bustling nightlife and witnessed the flourishing days of Lin Yuan. Eventually, due to years of neglect, it fell into ruin. However, it gained some fame for being a filming location for the Golden Bell Award-winning drama "A Touch of Green," becoming a popular Instagram spot. Lin Yuan was an important military base during the Japanese colonial period, with frequent interactions among soldiers and merchants. The old street (Fuxing Street) and the new street (Linyuan North Road) were the earliest and most prosperous areas of local development. Anle Building, located in a small alley on Linyuan North Road, has had its main entrance demolished, and visitors can only enter through the back entrance. The plaque above the main entrance with the words "Anle Lou Restaurant" has become weathered, but the lettering can still be faintly discerned. The building has an M-shaped layout, combining Japanese garden elements with Baroque architecture. The staircase leading up to the second floor is the most representative and also the best-preserved area inside the building, where many tourists take photos. Many corners still reflect the design of that era, including about ten private rooms, and there are restrooms and washbasins on both floors, separated by gender, making it a very advanced structure for its time. The lively nightlife of the grand hotel is long gone; the dilapidated Anle Building lies hidden in the alleys of Lin Yuan, and its story is little known, even to many locals who are unaware of its existence. It wasn't until "A Touch of Green" was filmed here that this elegant and exquisite historical building began to attract more attention.
