Chou Ta-Kuan Reading Out Hope Center Introduction
Pingtung Dapeng Bay is a place everyone has heard of; it is the largest lagoon in Taiwan. Driving from Donggang towards the Pengwan Bridge in Linbian, you will find a quaint little fishing village on the right side—Nampin! In this tiny fishing village, on the right you can gaze out over the Taiwan Strait towards Xiao Liuqiu, and on the left is the vast Dapeng Bay lagoon. The local residents originally relied on aquaculture and fishing around Dapeng Bay for their livelihoods. After the establishment of the Dapeng Bay National Scenic Area, most young people, like in other rural areas, have gradually migrated to urban cities in search of better opportunities. This is the hometown of the writer Zhou Daguan, who joyfully read here as a child. To sustain the joyful reading experiences of our hometown, we founded the world's first reading station—the Zhou Daguan Hope Center. Our mission is to promote reading, serve tea, provide bike rentals, and offer international volunteer exchanges. We sincerely invite everyone to donate books sustainably, so that more children in remote areas and international backpackers can learn to love books, read, share, and interact. A new highlight of Dapeng Bay is the Zhou Daguan Hope Center, welcoming people from all walks of life both domestically and internationally to come and experience: sip a cup of heartfelt tea and read a beloved book. We also welcome global backpackers to immerse themselves in books, make friends through reading, and engage in literary exchanges to create beauty together. We invite all parties to contribute sustainably by donating children’s picture books, parent-child books, inspirational literature, popular science, philosophical and humanities books, as well as lifestyle and parenting books to remote areas. We welcome global backpackers to personally deliver five picture books from their country for reading exchanges and volunteer opportunities. In summary, let’s all come together without distinction; as a United Nations of book lovers, may we read every day—reading hearts, reading the world.
