Zi-Qiang Memorial Park Introduction
Fushan Zhàobì, the representative of Matsu's military spirit. If the phrase "Forget Not the Struggle" on Jincheng Taiwu Mountain serves as the spiritual benchmark of Kinmen, the words "Be Prepared for War" on the Fushan Zhàobì undoubtedly represent Matsu's military spirit. As the passenger ships "Taiwan Matsu Star" and "Taiwan Matsu" slowly sail into Fuao Harbor in Matsu, one is greeted by the prominent red characters of "Be Prepared for War" from afar, majestically standing on Fuqing Ridge in Nangan, grand and imposing. This commemorative wall is located in a park on the hillside southwest of Fuao Village, featuring a rectangular structure with two underground levels and five above ground. From a distance, it stands out with its white background and red characters. The front of the wall displays "Be Prepared for War," while the back describes the origin of these four characters. To reach the Be Prepared for War Memorial Park from Fuao Harbor, visitors will first see a statue of Chiang Kai-shek at the foot of the memorial park. There are long, interwoven stairs; for those who enjoy hiking, they can climb the steps while taking in the ocean view. If you prefer not to climb the stairs, you can drive up according to the signs to reach the viewing platform, where the panoramic view is magnificent. From the height, one can overlook the entire Fuao Harbor, capturing the essence of the northern coastline of Nangan, offering a unique charm. The original intention behind "Be Prepared for War" was that during Chiang Kai-shek's inspection of defense in Matsu in July 1958, he personally inscribed it to encourage the military and civilian residents of Matsu to remember their aspiration for national recovery. The inscription was later enlarged and established, becoming a well-recognized symbol welcoming tourists to Matsu. One of Matsu's must-visit landmarks, "Be Prepared for War" is the most prominent symbol, offering a perfect distant view that enriches memories of traveling in Matsu. Note: Due to the open terrain and strong sea winds, visitors are reminded to pay attention to safety while enjoying the views.
