Folklore Museum Introduction
To understand the history of Matsu, experience its culture, and gain a comprehensive view of the region, a visit to the Matsu Folk Museum is a must! Rebuilt in 2002, the Matsu Folk Museum is a building that consists of one basement level and four above-ground levels. Not only does the exterior showcase distinct Eastern Fujian architectural features, but it also features decor like old wine jars, small windows, and the "Beauty's Lean" design, elegantly displaying the essence of Eastern Fujian aesthetics. Inside, the museum houses numerous artifacts from Matsu's ancestors, with different themes on each floor, recording the details of Matsu's history, geography, everyday life, language culture, and architectural customs. Upon entering, the first floor features a documentary on the military administration period in Matsu, providing insight into the lives of the military and civilians at that time. There is also an exhibition area showcasing recent archaeological achievements in Matsu, as well as its geographical location. The second floor displays traditional Matsu architecture and industrial aspects, while the third floor focuses on religious beliefs, traditional opera, folk music, crafts, and various ceremonial meanings. Further up is a public exhibition space that frequently hosts art exhibitions. While visiting the various small islands of Matsu, be sure to allocate time to visit the Folk Museum; you will find the experience rewarding.
