Folk Arts and Crafts Museum Introduction
To experience the rich history and culture of Matsu, visiting the Matsu Folk Museum is a must! The museum, renovated in 2002, is a five-story building with a basement, showcasing distinct East Fujian architectural features, including traditional elements like old wine jars and small windows that reflect the elegance of East Fujian aesthetics. The museum houses numerous artifacts from the lives of Matsu's ancestors, with each floor dedicated to different themes, such as historical origins, topography, everyday life, language and culture, and traditional architecture, comprehensively documenting Matsu's history and culture. Upon entering, the first floor features a documentary about Matsu during the military administration period, providing insights into the lives of the people at that time. There is also an exhibition area showcasing recent archaeological findings and Matsu's geographical location. The second floor displays traditional Matsu architecture and aspects of local industries, while the third floor focuses on religious beliefs, folk music, crafts, and various rituals. Continuing upward, visitors can find a public exhibition space where art pieces are frequently featured. When visiting the various islands of Matsu, be sure to allocate some time to visit the Folk Museum for a rewarding experience.
