Folk Art Museum Introduction
To understand the history of Matsu and experience its culture, a visit to the Matsu Folk Museum is a must! The museum, which was renovated in 2002, features a building with one underground floor and four above-ground floors. Its exterior is characterized by traditional Eastern Fujian style, adorned with decorative elements such as old wine jars, small windows, and "Meiren Kua" (a traditional Chinese decorative element), elegantly showcasing the essence of Eastern Fujian aesthetics. The museum houses a vast collection of artifacts from Matsu's ancestors, with each floor dedicated to different themes, documenting Matsu's history from its origins, geography, everyday life, linguistic culture, to architectural customs in great detail. Upon entering, visitors can watch a documentary about the military control period in Matsu on the first floor, providing insights into the living conditions of civilians and military personnel during that time. There is also an exhibition area showcasing recent archaeological achievements and illustrating Matsu's geographical location. The second floor displays traditional Matsu architecture and industrial aspects, while the third floor presents various customs related to religious beliefs, folk music, opera, and handicrafts. Ascending further, visitors will find public exhibition spaces that often feature art showcases. While visiting the various islands of Matsu, be sure to set aside time to explore the Folk Museum; it promises to be a rewarding experience.
