Ren'ai Village (Teppanyaki) Introduction
Recreating the Glory of Coastal Fishing Villages: Another Small Settlement in Nangan - Ren'ai Village Ren'ai Village, formerly known as "Tieban" (Iron Plate), is surrounded by mountains on three sides and faces the sea on one side. During low tide, large areas of sandy gravel and concrete appear along the shore, sparkling in the sunlight like a giant iron plate, which is how it got its name. Later, it was renamed Ren'ai Village. It used to be the site of a large vegetable market and the county government, bustling for a time, but after the political and economic center shifted to Shanlong Village, Ren'ai Village returned to its quietude. The village features many Min Dong-style stone houses. In recent years, with the planning efforts of the government and dedicated individuals, the commercial district has been revitalized, with installations of public art, such as incorporating old stone houses into a camouflaged war zone theme, displaying large old photographs outdoors, and recreating traditional archways. Residents' dedication to preserving and cultivating the settlement is evident everywhere, bringing Ren'ai Village back to life. Thanks to the careful maintenance by the villagers, several complete traditional buildings have been preserved. Wandering through Ren'ai Village, one can easily appreciate the charming scenery created by the intertwining of modern architecture and old houses, although the appearance of fishing villages is no longer visible. Through the passage of time, a unique tranquility remains. Matsu Story Museum and Tieban Living Museum: Revisiting Simple Old Stories Near the entrance of Ren'ai Village, at the Matsu Daily News office, there is the "Matsu Story Museum." The first floor focuses on the history of the Matsu newspaper industry, while the second floor showcases related artifacts and old photographs from the wartime period in Matsu. Not far away, the "Tieban Living Museum," a renovated old house displaying local customs and artifacts, offers visitors a glimpse into the lifestyle of wartime Matsu, as if stepping into a time tunnel. Hidden in the Ren'ai Market, "A-Po Chongdi Shibing" looks similar to "oyster pancakes" but is made with quality ingredients. Made from a batter of rice and soybeans, it is filled with eggs, cabbage, shredded meat, and rice noodles, then deep-fried until golden and crispy. The layered texture is irresistible!
