國之北疆

Standing at the northernmost point of Taiwan, many people know that the southernmost part of the Republic of China extends to the Spratly Islands' Zengmu Ansha, but they may not be aware that the northernmost boundary is located at Dongyin, Matsu. Heading northwest from the Qing Shui Ao checkpoint along the road, after climbing over the mountain, you reach the northernmost edge of the Republic of China. However, the true northernmost point of Taiwan is actually a small reef located offshore of Luohan Cape! This reef, also known as Beigu Reef, is situated about 600 meters above the back bay of Xi Yin. Currently, the reef island is uninhabited and appears or disappears with the ebb and flow of the tides. To commemorate this northern boundary of the nation and to allow tourists to catch a glimpse of it, the Matsu National Scenic Area Administration has built a viewing platform at the Luohan Cape and erected a stone tablet inscribed with "Northern Border of the Nation," providing visitors a spot to take photos. Even if they do not see Beigu Reef, they can still prove that they have visited the "north of the national boundary."

The Northern Border of the Country Introduction

Standing at the northernmost point of Taiwan, many people know that the southernmost boundary of the Republic of China reaches the Thitu Island in the Spratly Islands, but few might realize that the northernmost boundary lies in Dongyin, Matsu. Head northwest along the road from the Qing Shui Ao control post, climb over the hills, and continue straight to reach the northern edge of the Republic of China. However, the true northernmost point of Taiwan is actually a small reef located off the coast of Luohanping Cape! This reef, also known as "Beigu Reef," is situated about 600 meters above the back bay of Xiyin. Currently, this reef is uninhabited and may sometimes appear or disappear with the tidal changes. To commemorate this northern boundary and to allow visitors a glimpse of its beauty, the Matsu National Scenic Area Administration has built an observation deck at Cape Hōau and erected a stone tablet inscribed with the words "National Northern Frontier," providing tourists a place to take photos. Even if visitors do not see Beigu Reef, they can still prove they have been to the "north of the national boundary."
