Jiji Bicycle Path - Green Tunnel Section Introduction

Located between Mingjian Township and Jiji Township, the 4.5-kilometer Camphor Tree Highway is the famous Jiji Green Tunnel. These camphor trees, planted in 1940, were diligently cared for according to the memories of local elders; water had to be fetched daily from the stream to prevent the trees from withering, lest they be penalized. Today, these camphor trees are lush and shady, making it a pleasurable experience to ride a bike through them. Especially on a hot summer day, you hardly feel the scorching sun—a true example of "those who plant trees provide shade for future generations." Alongside the road is a scenic railway, where a small train passes slowly, adding more poetry to the scenery, making it a great spot for many tourists and newlyweds to take photos.
