Jiji Bike Path - Green Tunnel Section Introduction
Located between Mingjian Township and Jiji Township, the 4.5-kilometer Chou Tree Highway is the renowned Jiji Green Tunnel. These camphor trees, planted in 1940, required great care according to local elders. Back then, people had to fetch water from the river every day to water the trees to prevent them from wilting, or they would be penalized. Today, these camphor trees are lush and provide ample shade. Riding a bike through the tunnel is a delightful experience, especially in the scorching summer heat, where one hardly feels the sun's intensity—truly a case of "the ancestors planted trees, and the descendants enjoy the shade!" Beside the road is a scenic railway, where small trains pass slowly, adding to the poetic atmosphere, making it a perfect spot for many tourists and newlyweds to take photos.
