Dazhangshu Temple (Dazhang Tree) Introduction
The banyan tree is over seven hundred years old, standing at thirty meters tall, located in front of the prosperous Dajhong Temple in Jiji. In the early Guangxu period, the faithful rebuilt the original small shrine into the current temple, where a statue of Dajhong Ye was sculpted for worship. The ancient banyan tree, due to its long history, is regarded by the local people as a deity and is reverently called "Zhangshu Gong." Every year on the twenty-third day of the eighth lunar month, a large number of tourists and locals come to pay their respects for the celebration of Zhangshu Gong’s birthday. In 1999, the local government sought funding from the Environmental Protection Administration to build a recreational park, providing a resting place for tourists under the shade of the tree.
