Dazhongye Temple (Big Camphor Tree) Introduction
The camphor tree is over 700 years old. It stands 30 meters tall and is located in front of the bustling Dazhong Temple in Jiji. In the early Guangxu period, devotees transformed the original small shrine into a temple, and the deity Dazhong Ye was carved as a statue for worship. Due to its ancient age, local people regard the old camphor tree as a deity, referring to it as "Zhangshu Gong." Every year on the 23rd day of the 8th lunar month, a grand celebration for Zhangshu Gong is held, attracting countless worshippers and tourists. In 1999, the city hall applied for funding from the Environmental Protection Administration to build a recreational park, providing a shaded area for travelers to rest and cool off under the tree.
