Wuchang Temple Introduction
Wuchang Temple is dedicated to the North Emperor Xuantian. The temple was built during the Japanese colonial period in Taisho 12 (1923) and has gained the trust of local believers. In 1990, a devotee donated land to construct a new temple, which was completed in 1999. However, it was affected by the 921 earthquake, as the temple was located at the epicenter, causing the newly built structure to collapse from two stories to one. Fortunately, devotees rescued the deities during the aftershocks, and the temple has preserved its post-disaster appearance over the years. It is the only remaining site of the 921 earthquake in Jiji Township and has become a popular attraction. According to legend, the beard of the deity has grown longer, leading to an increase in worshippers, making it a famous earthquake memorial site in Jiji Township.
