Wuchang Temple Introduction
Wuchang Temple enshrines Emperor Xuantian, and it was built in the 12th year of the Taisho era (1923) during the Japanese occupation, receiving great reliance from local worshippers. In 1990, a devotee donated land to construct the temple, which was completed in 1999 but was then struck by the Jiji earthquake. Located at the epicenter, the newly built temple collapsed from two stories to one. Fortunately, worshippers salvaged the deities during the aftershocks, and after several years, it still retains its post-disaster appearance, becoming the only preserved site of the 921 earthquake in Jiji Township. According to legend, the beard of the deity has been growing longer, which has led to an increase in devotees visiting, turning it into a famous earthquake memorial site in Jiji Township.
