Wuchang Temple Introduction
Wuchang Temple is dedicated to the Emperor Xuantian of the Northern Pole and was established during the Japanese colonial period in 1923. It has since become a trusted place of worship for the local believers. In 1990, a devotee donated land to build a new temple, which was completed in 1999. Unfortunately, it was affected by the 921 earthquake, as it was located at the epicenter, causing the newly built two-story temple to collapse into a single floor. Fortunately, devotees managed to rescue the deities during the aftershocks. After several years, the temple still retains its post-disaster appearance and has become a popular spot as the only preserved site of the 921 earthquake in Jiji Township. According to legend, the beard of the deity has been growing longer over time, leading to an increase in worshippers who flock to pay their respects, making it a famous earthquake memorial site in Jiji Township.
