Wuchang Temple Introduction
Wuchang Temple is dedicated to Emperor Bei Ji Xuan Tian. It was built in the 12th year of the Taisho era (1923) during the Japanese colonial period and has gained the trust of local believers. In the 79th year of the Republic of China, a devotee donated land to build the temple, which was completed in the 88th year of the Republic. However, it was affected by the 921 earthquake, as it was located at the epicenter, and the newly constructed two-story temple collapsed to a single floor. Fortunately, believers managed to rescue the deities during the aftershocks. After several years, it still retains its post-disaster appearance and has become a popular attraction as the only retained site of the 921 earthquake in Jiji Township. It is said that the beard of the deity grows longer over time, attracting even more devotees to worship, making it a well-known earthquake memorial in Jiji Township.
