Wuchang Temple Introduction

Wuchang Temple is dedicated to the North Pole Xuantian Emperor. It was established in the 12th year of the Taisho period (1923) during the Japanese colonial period and has been relied upon by local worshippers. In the 79th year of the Republic of China, a devotee donated land to build the temple, which was completed in the 88th year but unfortunately was struck by the 921 earthquake. Since it is located at the epicenter, the newly built temple collapsed from two stories to one. Fortunately, worshippers rescued the deities during the aftershocks, and the temple has preserved its original post-disaster appearance over the years. It is the only site in Jiji Township that retains the remnants of the 921 earthquake, becoming a popular tourist attraction. It is said that the beard of the deity has been growing longer, attracting even more devotees, and has become a famous earthquake memorial site in Jiji Township.
