Dazhong Temple (Banyan Tree) Introduction
The cypress tree is over 700 years old and stands 30 meters tall, located in front of the popular Dazhong Temple in Jiji. During the early Guangxu period, devotees remodeled the original small shrine into the current temple, where the Dazhong Ye statue was enshrined for worship. Due to its ancient age, the local community regards the old cypress tree as a deity and refers to it as "Cypress God," believing it to be particularly useful for finding lost items. Every year on the 23rd day of the 8th lunar month, it is the Cypress God's birthday, and it also marks the day of Jiji's annual grand worship ceremony. On this day, countless visitors come to pay their respects, causing the area in front of the temple to be bustling with vendors and crowds. This day is the most important day for the town of Jiji.
