Dazhangye Temple (Big Camphor Tree) Introduction

The large camphor tree, over 700 years old and standing 30 meters tall, is located in front of the popular Dazhong Temple in Jiji. In the early Guangxu period, devotees transformed the original small shrine into a larger temple, where the statue of Dazhong Ye was enshrined for worship. Due to its long history, the old camphor tree is regarded by the local people as a deity and is affectionately referred to as "Camphor Tree God." It is said to be most useful for finding lost items. Every year on the 23rd day of the 8th lunar month, the birthday of the Camphor Tree God is celebrated, coinciding with Jiji's annual grand worship day. Countless visitors and locals come to pay their respects, and the stalls, crowds, and stages for fulfilling vows at the temple make Jiji Street extremely congested. This day is also the most important day for the town of Jiji.
