Dazhong Temple (Big Camphor Tree) Introduction

The large camphor tree is over 700 years old and stands 30 meters tall, located in front of the popular Dajhong Temple in Jiji. In the early Guangxu period, believers renovated the original small shrine into a temple, and the deity transformed into a statue of Dajhong Ye for worship. The ancient camphor tree, due to its long history, is regarded by locals as a deity, affectionately called "Zhangshu Gong," and is said to be very effective for finding lost items. The date of August 23rd in the lunar calendar is celebrated as the birthday of Zhangshu Gong and is also the day of the annual grand worship in Jiji. On this day, countless tourists and locals come to pay their respects, and the area around the temple is filled with vendors and a bustling crowd, making Jiji township incredibly crowded. This day is the most important occasion for the Jiji community.
