Zai Fa Hao Rice Dumplings Introduction
Founded during the Qing Dynasty's Tongzhi period, it has a history of over 130 years. Now in its fourth generation, Wu Liyuan has transformed the traditional zongzi into much larger meat dumplings, making it well-known in the snack street of the Fort City. The "Eight Treasure Zongzi" features eight treasures including scallops, shiitake mushrooms, dried shrimp, crispy fish, minced pork, chestnuts, salted egg, and lean pork. It is wrapped using three layers of bamboo leaves, with the outer two layers made from fresh bamboo leaves and the inner layer from cooked bamboo leaves, weighing about 12 ounces each. The shop emphasizes that the deliciousness of the meat dumpling comes simply by drizzling it with meat sauce; the luxurious fillings in the Eight Treasure Zongzi, along with high-quality glutinous rice and the three layers of bamboo leaves, create a seamless pairing of delightful sweetness and meat sauce.
