Zai Fa Hao Sticky Rice Dumplings Introduction

Founded during the Qing Dynasty's Tongzhi period, this establishment has a history of over 130 years. Now in its fourth generation, Wu Liyuan has transformed the traditional zongzi (sticky rice dumpling) into a larger meat zongzi, making it well-known in Tainan's snack street. The signature "Eight Treasures Zongzi" includes ingredients such as scallops, mushrooms, dried shrimp, flatfish, minced meat, chestnuts, salted eggs, and lean pork. The zongzi is wrapped with three layers of bamboo leaves, with the outer two layers made of fresh bamboo leaves and the inner layer made of boiled bamboo leaves, each weighing about 12 taels. The shop emphasizes that the deliciousness of the meat zongzi is highlighted when drizzled with meat sauce, and the luxurious fillings of the Eight Treasures Zongzi, combined with high-quality glutinous rice and a three-layer wrap of bamboo leaves, create a seamless match of savory sweetness with the meat sauce.
