Bao Lai Xiang Bakery Introduction
Zhao Pi Xiang Cakes, commonly known as "Puffed Cakes," are the size of meat buns and have a smooth surface with a dark brown color, featuring the shop's imprint "Bao Lai Xiang" in three characters on the top. They were a staple snack for women in confinement in Tainan in the past. To prepare them, sesame oil is heated and poured into the puffed cakes, which are then punctured with a small hole to crack an egg inside. After pan-frying until done, they are ready to eat. It is said to help strengthen the waist, promote bone health, and contract the uterus, embodying the traditional therapeutic methods of Tainan. Another famous product is "Garlic Flour Twists," made by kneading garlic paste with flour, twisting it into a spiral shape, frying it, and then coating it with powdered sugar to cool. They are named "Garlic Flour Twists" because they resemble deer antlers. Their characteristics include being crispy, fragrant, and sweet, making them the best-selling snack at Bao Lai Xiang Cake Shop. Other traditional pastries, such as Black Bean Paste, Green Mung Bean Cakes, and Meat Pies, are also quite special. Don't forget to try them when you visit the Shui Xian Gong Market!
