Bolaijiao Bakery Introduction
Zhao Bi Xiang Bing, commonly known as "Puffed Cake," is the size of a meat bun, with a smooth surface and a dark brown sugar color. The top is stamped with the words "Bao Lai Xiang" in a four-corner design. This snack was a must-have for women during confinement in former Tainan. The cakes are filled with fragrant sesame oil and a small hole is poked in the cake to insert an egg, which is then cooked until done. It is said to have benefits such as strengthening the waist and bones and helping to contract the uterus, embodying a traditional therapeutic approach in Tainan. Another famous product is "Garlic Twist," made by kneading minced garlic with flour, twisting the dough into a shape resembling a flower, and deep-frying it before coating it with powdered sugar. Named for its resemblance to deer antlers, "Garlic Twist" is characterized by its crispness, aroma, and sweetness, making it the best-selling snack at Bao Lai Xiang Bing shop. Other notable traditional pastries include black bean paste, green bean cakes, and meat buns. Don't forget to try them when visiting the Shuixian Temple Market.
