Qingkunshan Xiuli Oysters

Tainan Foods

"Qing Kun Shan Xiu Li Oyster Cake" is located in an alley opposite the Qing Shan Fishing Harbor. Originally known only to locals ("insiders"), it has now become a must-visit spot for tourists. Every morning, as they prepare their stall, customers are already arriving, and tour buses bring in groups of visitors, making the narrow alley crowded. Local residents are already accustomed to this scene, which is no longer surprising. On the day of the interview, there were over 200 orders, leaving the five late-arriving tour buses looking on in disappointment, which illustrates its popularity. The founder of "Xiu Li Oyster Cake," Wang Chen Mei Gui, originally ran a grocery store where fishermen from Qing Kun Shan would come in the afternoons after fishing trips to drink and chat. This inspired Wang Chen Mei Gui to think about serving fried oyster cakes as a snack. Since her family home was near Ling Ziliao Alley where they also sold fried oyster cakes, she learned the family’s secret recipe from her mother and established the 60-year legacy of "Qing Kun Shan Xiu Li Oyster Cake." Initially, Wang Chen Mei Gui sold fried oyster cakes, meat cakes, squid cakes, tilapia, and fried rice cakes, as well as a mixed cake with oysters, meat, and squid. Due to its nature as a side business, it was only open in the afternoon, and for just half the year, not operating in the summer, with the frying oil placed on the ground in front of the grocery store.
