Ying Shan Temple Introduction
The temple known as "Liujia West Palace" or Ying Shan Temple is located by the coast of Lücuo, backed by Ying Mountain, resembling a cuckoo ready to take flight. Built during the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty, it is one of the ancient temples in Kinmen. It serves as a common center of worship for the six communities: Liu'ao, Pubian, Lücuo, Houzhai, Changfu, and Yangshan. The most striking feature in front of the temple is the Stone General, said to have been established to counter the wind lion god of Housha and ultimately subdued it, together guarding the village. Upon closer inspection of its helmet, one can find a small stone lion on top, which is rumored to be the wind lion god of Housha! It is said that the Stone General was carved from a spiritual stone that originated from the coast of Bieshan (Houshan), which glows red at night, and by day one can see a person lying on the stone, yet upon approaching, the figure disappears. Under divine guidance, it was split into two, one half carved into the Stone General of Ying Shan Temple, and the other half into the Bieshan wind lion god.
