Ying Shan Temple Introduction
Ying Shan Temple, commonly known as "Liujia Ximiao," is located by the sea in Lücuo and backed by Ying Mountain, resembling a soaring oriole. Built during the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty, it is one of the ancient temples in Kinmen. It serves as a shared center of faith for the communities of Liu'ao, Pubian, Lücuo, Houzhai, Changfu, and Yangshan. The most prominent feature in front of the temple is the Stone General, which was said to be established to counterbalance the Hou Sha Wind Lion God. Eventually, it subdued the Wind Lion God, and together they protect the village. If you closely observe its helmet, you will find a small stone lion on top, which is said to represent the Hou Sha Wind Lion God! Legend has it that the stone material for the Stone General originally came from a mystical stone on the Bīshān (Hou Mountain) coastline, which emits a red glow at night, and during the day, it is said a person can be seen lying on the stone, but when approached, they disappear. Following the divine instructions, the stone was split in two; one piece was carved into the Stone General of Ying Shan Temple, while the other became the Bīshān Wind Lion God.
