Tiefort Introduction
A Must-Visit Attraction in Nangan for Military Tourism If you want to deeply experience the military atmosphere of Matsu, you must include the Iron Fort in your travel itinerary! Arriving at the independent reef along the coastline of Ren'ai Village, you can immediately sense the somber ambiance of the battlefield. This terrain is rugged and strategic for observing the sea, thus it was once established as a military post. It was guarded day and night by a team of elite amphibious commandos who patrolled the western coastline. Due to the need for defensive structures, the interior of the reef was hollowed out and covered with concrete bunkers, painted in camouflage colors, and protected by green netting. Along the cliffs by the shore, there are shards of glass and iron pieces embedded to deter enemy infiltrators and ambushes, standing resolutely amid the waves. Inside the Iron Fort, beneath the concrete pathway, lies excavated tunnels with distinct marks on the hard granite walls. On both sides of the passage, remnants of underground stone rooms, firing ports, artillery positions, rooms, restrooms, and kitchens are orderly arranged. Although small, it is fully equipped. Due to its remote location, it was also guarded by military dogs, the only rank-bearing dogs in the area at the time. Climbing up the tunnels to the top offers a panoramic view of the sea, along with a glimpse of the dog enclosure. Today, with the smoke of battle a distant memory, this small reef, once a coastal defense stronghold, exudes the spirit of "iron-blooded valor and maritime fortitude."
