Lukang Wenwu Temple Introduction

Wenkai Academy, Wumiao Temple, and Wenchang Shrine are three adjacent buildings aligned in a row. In the 4th year of the Daoguang era (1824), Deng Chuan'an, the local defense official of Lugang, advocated for the establishment of the academy. Merchants and gentry from Quanzhou and Xiaoqiao contributed funds in response, and the construction of the academy was completed in the 7th year of Daoguang (1827). Named "Wenkai Academy," it commemorates the late Ming scholar Shen Guangwen, whose courtesy name was "Wenkai."
