Lukang Wenwu Temple Introduction

Wenkai Academy, the martial temple, and Wenchang Shrine are three adjacent buildings lined up in a row. In the 4th year of the Dao Guang era (1824), Deng Chuan'an, the coastal defense officer of Lugang, advocated for the construction of the academy. Merchants and gentry from Quanzhou and Xiaokau responded by donating funds, and the construction of the academy was completed in the 7th year of the Dao Guang era (1827). Named "Wenkai Academy," it is to commemorate the Confucian scholar Shen Guangwen from the late Ming dynasty, whose courtesy name was "Wenkai."
