Lukang Wenkun Temple Introduction

Wen Kai Academy, the Wumiao Temple, and the Wen Chang Temple are three adjacent buildings aligned in a row. The construction of the academy was initiated in the fourth year of the Daoguang reign (1824) by Deng Chuan'an, the coastal defense official of Lugang, with contributions from merchants and gentry from Quanzhou and Xiaoshan. The construction was completed in the seventh year of the Daoguang reign (1827). Named "Wen Kai Academy," it commemorates the late Ming Confucian scholar Shen Guangwen, whose courtesy name was "Wen Kai."
