Lukang Wenwu Temple Introduction

The Wenkai Academy, Wumiao, and Wenchang Temple are three adjacent buildings lined up in a row. In the fourth year of the Daoguang era (1824), Deng Chuan'an, the coastal defense officer of Lugang, advocated for the establishment of the academy, and local gentry from Quanzhou and Xiamen answered the call for donations. The construction of the academy was completed in the seventh year of Daoguang (1827). Named "Wenkai Academy," it commemorates the late Ming Confucian scholar Shen Guangwen, whose courtesy name was "Wenkai."
