Lukang Wenwu Temple Introduction
Wenkai Academy, alongside the Martial Temple and the Wenchang Shrine, consists of three adjacent buildings. In the fourth year of the Daoguang era (1824), Deng Chuan'an, the coastal defense officer of Lugang, proposed the establishment of the academy, which was supported by merchants and gentry from Quanzhou and Xiamen who donated funds. By the seventh year of Daoguang (1827), the construction of the academy was completed. It is named "Wenkai Academy" in memory of the late Ming scholar Shen Guangwen, whose courtesy name was "Wenkai."
