Lukang Wenwu Temple Introduction
Wenkai Academy, Wu Temple, and Wenchang Shrine are three adjacent buildings lined up in a row. In the fourth year of the Daoguang era (1824), Deng Chuan'an, the coastal defense officer of Lugang, proposed the establishment of the academy, which was financially supported by the gentry of Quanzhou and Xiamen. The construction of the academy was completed in the seventh year of Daoguang (1827). It is named "Wenkai Academy" in honor of Shen Guangwen, a Confucian scholar from the late Ming dynasty, whose courtesy name was "Wenkai."
