Taiyuan Valley Introduction
Taiyuan Gorge is located on the south side of Taiwan Route 23 (Dongfu Highway), situated between Taiyuan Village and Donghe Village. It is named for the canyon landscape formed by the erosion of the Mawu River, particularly noted for the scenic section from Dengxian Bridge to Taiyuan Village. The deep and majestic canyon, complemented by the abundant clear streams, earned it the nickname "Little Tianxiang." While driving through by car or motorcycle, the steep mountain walls are in close proximity, allowing you to experience the fresh mountain air and cool breezes, while listening to the chirping of birds and the sounds of cicadas. Upon entering the Taiyuan Basin, the expansive scenery of the basin is eye-catching, with the coastal mountain range rolling into the distance, offering a breathtaking view. The surrounding area is also a habitat for Formosan macaques, and it is common to see groups of monkeys foraging and moving about in the forest, their adorable antics attracting many visitors for observation and photography. It is recommended to also visit the Dengxian Bridge recreation area and Taiyuan Village to enjoy the monkey ecology and the beautiful scenery of Taiyuan Gorge. Afterward, you can taste and purchase agricultural products irrigated by the clear streams in Taiyuan Village. The large Pomelo, available from October to November each year, is rich in vitamin C, and its sweet and slightly sour flavor keeps customers coming back for more. Additionally, the rice grown in the deep mountains is of remarkable quality, as the misty environment throughout the seasons allows the grains to absorb ample moisture, making it incredibly delicious. A small reminder: when observing the monkeys, it is advised to maintain a safe distance and not to bring food, as this may attract the monkeys and lead to unexpected incidents or conflicts. If the monkeys exhibit aggressive behavior, please retreat promptly and take special care while taking photos.
