Amis Folk Center Introduction
The Amis Folk Center is located next to the Dongguan Office in Duli, covering an area of approximately 2 hectares. The park features an outdoor performance plaza, an outdoor grandstand capable of accommodating 2,000 spectators, an archery experience area, and traditional Amis houses. Currently managed by the Amis Gagen Band, it invites visitors to experience archery, DIY bead-making, and traditional musical instruments like the bamboo flute, or enjoy performances of traditional Amis songs and dances. It has become a great spot for experiencing Amis culture as well as a family-friendly recreational destination. The Amis Folk Center was completed in November 1995 and features main structures such as ritual houses and traditional dwellings, modeled after hand-drawn maps by Japanese ethnologist Chikuyou Soratari during his investigation in 1943 in Guangfu Township, Hualien County, based on the priest’s residence of the Tabalang community in Hualien County. Visiting here allows one to see the unique residential culture of the Amis people. In addition to exploring the distinctive architecture and appreciating the beauty of Amis buildings, the folk center also hosts exhibits of tribal artifacts, handicrafts, specialty products, and food services. Lastly, do not miss the scheduled free performances, where the resonant singing paired with traditional Amis instruments such as the "gagen" (bamboo bell) and nose flute showcases the authentic music of the Amis. If you visit next time, take a moment to enjoy a performance by the Amis Gagen Band!
