Ameilzu Folk Center Introduction
The Amis Folk Center is located next to the Dongguang Office of the East Coast National Scenic Area and covers an area of approximately 2 hectares. The park features an outdoor performance square, an outdoor grandstand that can accommodate 2,000 spectators, an archery experience area, and traditional Amis houses. It is currently operated by the Amis Gagen Band, allowing visitors to try their hand at archery, DIY making Amis beadwork and traditional instruments like the pipe flute, or enjoy traditional Amis song and dance performances. It has become a great place to experience Amis culture and a fun location for family activities. The Amis Folk Center was completed in November 1995. The main buildings, including the worship house and traditional houses, were constructed based on hand-drawn sketches made by Japanese ethnologist Chikuyama Suke Taro, who conducted research in Guangfu Township, Hualien County in 1943. The design imitates the dwelling of priests in the Tabalan community of Hualien County, showcasing the unique residential culture of the Amis people. In addition to exploring its distinctive architecture and appreciating the beauty of Amis construction, the Folk Center also features a tribal cultural exhibit, handicrafts, local specialty sales, and food services. Don't miss the scheduled free performances, where the resonant sounds, accompanied by unique Amis instruments like the gagen (bamboo percussion) and nose flute, recreate the authentic music of the Amis. If you have the chance to visit next time, be sure to stay awhile to enjoy a performance by the Amis Gagen Band!
