Xiao Tianxiang Introduction
Located on the Fudong Highway, Xiao Tianxiang lives up to its name. Due to the canyon terrain and the similar scenery found on the Central Cross-Island Highway, it has become a popular sightseeing spot. The approximately 800-meter-long eroded valley was formed by the continuous scouring of the turtle creek's water, creating a steep little canyon that reveals Taiwan's oldest geology, the Dulan Formation, on both sides of the valley. The rock walls are mixed with volcanic tuff deposits from the Turtle Creek, forming steep, hard rocky cliffs. The nearby Girami tribe of the Amis people often notices animal tracks in the steep opposite valley, where countless macaques can be found, and with some luck, one might even spot the graceful silhouette of a Formosan serow. Visitors passing through this area are encouraged to slow down and look for signs of wildlife. Fengnan Village, where over 60% of the residents are Amis, has gradually become a new hub for eco-tourism and rural industries with the community's efforts in recent years. Visiting Xiao Tianxiang and stopping by Fengnan makes for a great itinerary!
