Luowu Academy Introduction
Yuzhang Hall, also known as Luo Wu Academy, is located within a radius of around 500-600 meters formed by the Niulan River and Fengshan Creek. This beautiful natural settlement was captured by Chi Po-Lin in the documentary "Beyond Beauty: Taiwan from Above." The hope is to preserve the old house and pass down Hakka cultural memories such as weaving bamboo, making vegetable buns, and using waterwheels for irrigation. With this idea in mind, Luo Shilong resigned from his job and returned to his ancestral home, joining the efforts to preserve old houses in Guanxi. Living in a traditional Hakka four-section courtyard offers an authentic experience of rural life. The first sight of this residence is absolutely stunning; it was once a private school and academy belonging to the Luo family. Despite being a regular residential house, it features exquisite Western-style carvings and decorations on the walls, rivaling the aesthetic of temples. The Luo Wu Academy now offers part of its space for accommodation as a homestay, where the retro guest rooms and kitchen provide an excellent opportunity to experience Hakka village culture. The spacious three-section courtyard can also transform into a camping site, where children can run around and play. Every year in July and November, visitors can enjoy the golden seas of rice in the courtyard and play in the maze of rice paddies.
