Lin Yutang House Introduction
The Lin Yutang Residence will undergo renovation starting June 1, 2024, for an estimated period of two years. In 1966, Mr. Lin returned to Taiwan and personally designed this villa, which combines the traditional Chinese siheyuan and Western architectural aesthetics, featuring blue tiles and white walls, along with arched corridors that blend modern sensibilities with classical beauty. It is located in Yangmingshan, a place that resembles the mountainous scenery of his hometown in Fujian, where he could hear familiar Minnan dialect, bringing him great comfort. He once described this residence as "a house with a garden, a garden with a house, a house with a courtyard, a courtyard with trees, a tree with the sky, and the sky with the moon, how delightful it is." The balcony was a favorite spot of Mr. Lin during his lifetime; after dinner, he enjoyed sitting in a rattan chair at the table, pipe in mouth, admiring the setting sun disappearing behind Guanyin Mountain.
