Chiu Lai Fa Bakery Introduction
In Tainan, there is a saying: "Even the grass flies want to eat county mouth sweet cakes." The "county mouth" refers to the area around the Chenghuang Temple, and the "county mouth sweet cakes" specifically refers to the sweet cakes from "Jiulifa." These delicacies, which are considered hard to obtain, may signify that they are unaffordable for rural folks or that even if they could eat them, they wouldn't appreciate their value. Essentially, the sweet cakes were seen as a luxury food at the time. "Jiulifa" still adheres to the traditional method of using a wood-fired red brick oven to produce cakes and rice snacks. Its signature products include sugar pastry, sesame cake, crystal cake, and both black and white sugar sweet cakes.
