Chiu Lai Fa Bakery Introduction
In Tainan, there is a popular saying, "Even the grassland flies wish to eat the county's fragrant cake," where "the county" refers to the area around the Chenghuang Temple, and "county fragrant cake" refers to the fragrant cake from "Jiulai Fa." This kind of delicacy, which is hard to come by, may imply that it's something the rural folks cannot afford or that even if they ate it, they wouldn’t appreciate its quality. In any case, the fragrant cake was considered a luxurious food item at the time. "Jiulai Fa" still insists on making cakes and rice cakes using traditional wood-fired red brick ovens. Their signature products include white sugar crispy cake, shaxi cake, crystal cake, and both black and white sugar fragrant cakes.
