In Tainan, there is a popular saying, "Even the grassland flies wish to eat county mouth fragrant cakes," where "county mouth" refers to the area around the County Chenghuang Temple, and "county mouth fragrant cakes" specifically refers to the fragrant cakes from "Jiulafa." These delicacies, which are difficult to obtain, may signify something that the rural folk cannot afford or perhaps something that one would not appreciate even if tasted. In any case, fragrant cakes were considered a luxury food at that time. "Jiulafa" continues to adhere to the traditional method of producing cakes and pastries using a wood-fired red brick oven. Their signature products include white sugar crispy cakes, sesame cakes, crystal cakes, as well as black and white sugar fragrant cakes, among others.
