Temple Introduction
Old House x Vintage. Music and Cats "The most unrealistic small shop in Chiayi." In February 2017, the abandoned house introduced itself this way on its social media. A couple who loves music and vintage clothes rented a long-empty lumber yard, filling it with "vintage" items, while a corner discreetly displays CDs from independent bands. Inside, there are two cats: a black cat cuddles up against the owner's feet, while a yellow cat lazily lays on a wooden step, occasionally yawning, as if to say: "What does it matter to me?" Khaihong, who studied fashion design in university, also has a career in music, and selling "vintage" is just a hobby. He is particularly fascinated by Taiwanese-made vintage clothing from the 80s and 90s, having scoured flea markets across northern, central, and southern Taiwan. After gathering too much, he decided to open a shop to share it. He said that at that time, Taiwan was one of the world’s leading textile nations, and many international brands came to Taiwan for garment manufacturing. In that era, the concept of copyright was weak, leading to many replicas with the same designs and materials produced by factories, some even bearing similar letters to those brands to deceive consumers. Those absurd logos, in retrospect, are all "beautiful mistakes." In Chiayi, vintage clothing is a niche market, and the abandoned house, devoted to Taiwanese-made vintage clothes, is even more niche within the niche.
