Sandiaojiao Old Trail Introduction
The "San Duan Qi Ancient Trail" is located at the junction of Xinpuwei and Xianglin Townships in Hsinchu County. It was originally a path used by farmers from Xianglin Township to transport citrus fruits and other crops to Xinpux for sale, dating back to the Daoguang era of the Qing Dynasty. With the development of highways and industrial roads, the transport function of the ancient trail has long diminished, and it has now become merely a rural mountain path. However, along the way, visitors can still enjoy the sight of hillside citrus orchards, the quaint cobblestone steps, and the old camphor trees accompanying the ancient stone shrine of the Earth God, silently recounting the bygone days of the ancient trail. The word "Qi" in Hakka refers to "slope" or "hillside," and "San Duan Qi" indicates that this ancient trail features three segments of stone steps (Shiqi) along its route. Traveling from San Duan Qi in Xinpux to Xianglin Township requires crossing Shitou Keng Mountain, passing through three sections of stone steps, hence its name.
