Sandiao Cape Historic Trail Introduction
The "San Duan Qi Ancient Trail" is located at the junction of Xinpu and Xianglin Townships in Hsinchu County. Historically, it served as a road for farmers from Xianglin Township to transport citrus and other agricultural products to the market in Xinpu, dating back to the Daoguang era of the Qing Dynasty. With the opening of highways and industrial roads, the transportation function of the ancient path has long diminished, and it has now become merely a rural path in the mountains. However, visitors can still enjoy the beautiful citrus orchards along the way, the quaint cobblestone steps, and the old camphor trees accompanying the ancient stone shrine dedicated to the Land God, quietly narrating the bygone years of the trail. The term "Qi" in Hakka refers to "slope," and "San Duan Qi" indicates that this ancient trail features three segments of sloped stone steps (Shiqi). The name originates from the journey that starts from San Duan Qi in Xinpu, leading to Xianglin Township, which requires crossing Stone Pit Mountain and passing through three sections of stone steps.
