Sanduchaki Old Trail Introduction
The "Sanduanxi Ancient Trail" is located at the junction of Xinpu and Qionglin Townships in Hsinchu County. It was once a path used by farmers from the Shanjian Village in Qionglin Township to transport citrus fruits and other crops to the market in Xinpu, forming around the Daoguang period of the Qing Dynasty. With the opening of highways and industrial roads, the transportation function of the ancient trail has long diminished, and it has now become merely a rural mountain road. However, along the way, visitors can still enjoy the sight of orange orchards across the hills, the rustic cobblestone steps, and the old camphor trees accompanying the ancient stone shrine of the earth god, quietly telling the stories of the bygone days of the trail. The term "qi" in Hakka refers to "hill" or "slope"; "Sanduanxi" refers to the three segments of stone step paths along the ancient trail (Shiqizai). To travel from Sanduanxi in Xinpu to Qionglin Township, one must cross the Shitou Keng Mountain and pass through three sections of stone steps, hence the name.
