Batongguan Historical Trail Introduction
The Batongguan Historic Trail originally starts from Zhushan Township in Nantou County (Linqipu), passes through Lukhu Township and Xinyi Township, crosses Batongguan and Xiuguluan Mountain, and ends at Yuli Township in Hualien County (Pushige), with a total length of about 152 kilometers. Built in 1875, it is one of the three cross-island roads established during Taiwan's Qing Dynasty, and it is the only one that still exists today, thus being listed as a national historic site. The currently usable section is about 20 kilometers from Dongpu Hot Springs to Batongguan Prairie. The area of the Batongguan Historic Trail open for public exploration is in the Dongpu region, so visitors to the Batongguan Historic Trail can also take the opportunity to tour Yushan National Park, Father-Son Cliff, Dongpu Hot Springs, Maiden Waterfall, Yunlong Waterfall, Rainbow Waterfall, Lover's Valley, and more. Yushan National Park is the largest national park in Taiwan, characterized by subtropical alpine geology, and its terrain mainly consists of high mountains and river valleys, shaping the most precious resource treasures and ecological environments. The Dongpu Cliff, also known as Father-Son Cliff, is located along the Batongguan Historic Trail segment, above Dongguang, and due to its unique geological hazards and constant falling rocks, even if two people like a father and son walk here, they cannot pay attention to each other, thus earning the evocative name "Father Doesn't Know Son."
