Dewen Tribe Introduction

In the village of Dewei, Sandimen Township, Pingtung County, the Dewei Scenic Area offers breathtaking views of mountainous landscapes. Situated at an altitude of 800 meters, Dewei Village features the Wangshang Ancient Trail, Dewei Hunter School, and Dela Park, which highlight the unique culture of the Rukai people and encompass an area of 1,560 hectares. The winding mountain roads leading to Dewei Village allow visitors to enjoy natural scenery with steep ridges and deep valleys. As winter approaches, the entire mountainous area becomes a vibrant spectacle of flowers, with plum blossoms, cherry blossoms, and loquat flowers blooming in succession, creating a picturesque landscape. A century-old banyan tree in the village unfortunately collapsed due to disease, but efforts such as pruning and inserting branches have helped restore its former glory. Dewei Village is predominantly inhabited by the Paiwan people, with indigenous artifacts visible everywhere, including stone-walled houses, tables, chairs, and totems. However, this area is classified as a mountainous restricted zone, and a mountain entry permit must be obtained for access. Notably, Dewei Village features numerous indigenous totems and installation art pieces that merge the natural beauty with the local cultural characteristics, allowing visitors to appreciate the stunning scenery while also experiencing the richness of indigenous culture.
