Guosheng Lighthouse Introduction
Located on a sandbar, the Guosheng Port Lighthouse, built in 1957, is situated in the Qigu District of Tainan City and is the westernmost lighthouse in Taiwan. It features a conical steel frame structure painted in black and white. The original Guosheng Port Lighthouse became submerged due to typhoon damage and coastal erosion, resulting in the complete loss of the sandbar. After being struck by Typhoon Viola in 1969, the tower collapsed and became unusable; in June 1970, a new lighthouse was constructed nearby at Ding Tou E Shan to replace the old one. Suggested itinerary for a day trip: Qigu Salt Mountain → Taiwan Salt Museum → Boat ride at Qigu Lagoon → Guosheng Port Lighthouse. It is not recommended to visit at night as there is no lighting. Please be cautious of potential sand accumulation by the northern entrance of the North Dike due to strong winds, to avoid getting stuck in mud or sand. It is suggested to enter through the southern entrance of the North Dike.
