Guosheng Lighthouse Introduction
Standing on a sandbank at the extreme western edge of the country, the Guosheng Port Lighthouse was built in 1957 (the 46th year of the Republic of China) in Tainan City's Qigu District. It is the westernmost lighthouse in Taiwan, featuring a conical steel structure painted in alternating black and white colors. After the original Guosheng Port Lighthouse was put into service, it was severely affected by typhoons and coastal erosion, leading to the loss of the sandbank and the entire lighthouse eventually submerged in the ocean. In 1969, it was struck by Typhoon Viola, causing the tower to collapse and become unusable. In June 1970, a new lighthouse was built nearby at Dingtou Eshan to replace the old one. Suggested itinerary for a day trip: Qigu Salt Mountain → Taiwan Salt Museum → Boat trip at Qigu Lagoon → Guosheng Port Lighthouse. It is not advisable to visit at night due to the lack of lighting. Please be cautious of safety when visiting, as the northern entrance of the North Dike may accumulate sand and dirt due to wind conditions, which could cause vehicles to get stuck. It is recommended to enter from the southern entrance of the North Dike.
