Guosheng Harbor Lighthouse Introduction
Located on a sandbar, the Guosheng Lighthouse, built in 1957, is situated at Guosheng Harbor in Qigu District, Tainan City, making it the westernmost lighthouse in Taiwan. It features a conical steel frame structure with alternating black and white stripes. The original Guosheng Lighthouse was put into operation but was submerged in the ocean due to typhoon damage and coastal erosion, losing the sandbar that supported it. After being devastated by Typhoon Ella in 1969, the tower collapsed and became unusable. In June 1970, a new lighthouse was built nearby at the top of the sandbar to take over its function. Recommended itinerary for a day trip: Qigu Salt Mountain → Taiwan Salt Museum → Boat trip on Qigu Lagoon → Guosheng Lighthouse. It is not recommended to visit at night due to lack of lighting. Please be cautious about safety, as the entrance at the north side of the north levee may accumulate sand and soil due to wind, which could cause vehicles to get stuck. It is advised to enter from the south side entrance of the north levee.
