Fubao Restaurant Introduction
Located directly in front of the "Heart of Shihding" Square, Fu Bao Eating House may seem unremarkable in appearance, but it has been in operation for over fifty years and is quite popular among locals. It is always packed on weekends and public holidays, making it a renowned old restaurant that hides superb culinary skills within its simple menu. Must-try dishes include the famous "Fu Bao Tofu Three Ways" – deep-fried tofu, tofu soup, and braised tofu, which are signature dishes that every foodie must sample. Particularly, the "Braised Tofu" is unique in that it is prepared differently from the typical restaurants that usually deep-fry before braising; instead, it is cooked slowly with Kikkoman soy sauce over low heat. Not only is the outer layer tender, but it also absorbs a sweet flavor, with the center of the tofu being equally flavorful, demonstrating the chef's profound cooking skills. While the name "Shihding Tofu" may not be as well-known as "Shenkeng Tofu," it is said that most of the tofu from Shenkeng actually comes from Shihding, thus carrying a unique roasted fragrance. However, the authenticity of this claim is subjective; those who are interested in verifying it can visit and taste for themselves.
