Sha Tao Palace Rice Dumplings Introduction
In Tainan, “Cai Zong” refers to the peanut rice dumplings wrapped in tapa leaves, which is a common breakfast food. What makes Lao Zheng's Cai Zong special is that it does not include peanut powder. Lao Zheng says that their peanuts and glutinous rice are of high quality, and adding peanut powder would mask the original flavors of the ingredients. Furthermore, not adding peanut powder enhances the fragrance of the tapa leaves. A simple dumpling paired with miso soup is a beautiful scene of Tainan mornings.
