Shataogong Cai Zong Introduction
In Tainan, the "cai zong" refers to the peanut rice dumpling wrapped in betel leaves, which is a common breakfast food. What makes Lao Zheng's cai zong special is that it doesn't include peanut powder. Lao Zheng explains that their peanuts and glutinous rice are of high quality, and adding peanut powder would mask the original flavor of the ingredients. Moreover, omitting the peanut powder allows the fragrance of the betel leaves to stand out. A simple zongzi paired with miso soup creates a beautiful morning scene in Tainan.
