Sha Tao Palace Vegetable Rice Dumpling Introduction
In Tainan, "cai zong" refers to peanut dumplings wrapped in mayantak leaves and is a common breakfast food. Lao Zheng's cai zong has a unique feature: it does not include ground peanuts. Lao Zheng explains that their peanuts and glutinous rice are both high-quality ingredients, and adding ground peanuts would mask the original flavor of the ingredients. Moreover, not adding ground peanuts allows the fragrant aroma of the mayantak leaves to be more pronounced. A simple dumpling paired with miso soup is a beautiful scene of Tainan's mornings.
