A-Chiao's Rice Porridge with Water Bamboo Dumplings Introduction
A-Chao's Rice Cake Porridge is a dish created by the owners, Chao Dad and Chao Mom, using the name of their youngest daughter "A-Chao" as an expression of longing for family ties, reminiscing about friendship, and continuing emotional connections. It is also a new brand from the fourth generation of Chao Mom's family recipe for rice cakes. The couple combines their life experiences through various cooking methods such as steaming, boiling, frying, and simmering into this warm bowl of rice cake porridge. The inspiration for A-Chao's Rice Cake Porridge brand comes from Chao Mom's affection for her late brother, Chao Dad's cherished memories with the fun bowl director, and their youngest daughter Ya-Chao inheriting the family business. In 2014 and 2015, Chao Mom's older brother, who was also Chao Dad's culinary mentor, and bowl designer Peng Xi-Zhi both passed away. The sudden absence of loved ones who shared daily life intensified feelings of loss. Chao Dad connected his life experiences with family and friendship, pouring the skills learned over the past decade into a comforting dish that incorporates local flavors of Tainan. This traditional recipe also repurposes the Fun Bowl of Tainan to serve the rice cake porridge, preserving the century-old techniques passed down from the master, while also honoring the Hakka spirit of Teacher Peng Xi-Zhi. By using the name of their youngest daughter "Chao" to link family and friendship, A-Chao's Rice Cake Porridge was born.
