Yishengxing Preserved Fruits Introduction
A Century-Old Tradition: Chinese Medicine Formulations. In the past, people typically consumed traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) when they were ill. As the saying goes, "good medicine tastes bitter," so to help sick children swallow the bitter herbal medicine, some TCM shops began to make sweet accompaniments, such as licorice powder, hawthorn cakes, and plum cakes. Over time, these expertly crafted sweet, sour, and salty treats made according to ancient methods have gained popularity among the locals. Therefore, "Yishengxing" also engages in the confectionery business. Fresh fruit is pickled using their own TCM formulations, and the TCM-based preserved fruits from "Yishengxing" are not only made in accordance with traditional practices but also meticulously crafted. They are hygienic, health-promoting, and have unique flavors. Founded by Mr. Yang Laoshou in 1882, "Yishengtang Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Shop" has a history of over a century, spanning the late Qing dynasty, Japanese rule, and the post-war period in Taiwan. Currently, it is operated by the third-generation owner, Mr. Yang Zhenxi. To facilitate the preparation of preserved fruits with TCM formulations, the fourth generation opened "Yishengxing Preserved Fruits" across from "Yishengtang Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Shop," offering a delightful mix of salty, sour, and sweet treats based on their ancestral TCM recipes.
