CouCou Cafe Pâtisserie

Chiayi Foods

CouCou, a French dessert café by the railway, sounds like the call of a cuckoo and serves as a friendly greeting in French. Just like "Cuckoo Dessert Café," it aims to create a feeling of being neighborly, close, and without any distance. The owners of "Cuckoo Dessert Café," Zhu Kai-an and Lin Cheng-an, have dreamt of opening a shop since childhood, waiting for the day to realize it. Zhu Kai-an worked as a second officer for Evergreen Marine for three years, and through the coffee brewed by the chief mate on board, he developed a curiosity for coffee. In a monotonous life at sea, coffee became his only comfort, prompting him to abandon a high-paying stable job, leave the ocean, and decisively enter the coffee business, where he met Lin Cheng-an by chance. Lin Cheng-an's interest in making desserts began during her university years. As a visual communication design major, self-learning cake-making became her way to relieve stress, leading her to the idea of studying in France. She actively planned and prepared: taking French classes, apprenticing in dessert kitchens, and preparing for English proficiency tests. After five years of hard work, she finally achieved her goal. Passionate about food and travel, Lin Cheng-an traveled across Europe during her studies in France, and the flavor experiences she encountered during her travels now serve as inspiration for her dessert designs, with each item in the café being a delight. "For example, 'Lemon Crescent' is made to resemble a crescent moon from lemon meringue, which I imagined would make customers' expressions change due to the acidity of the lemon," Cheng-an playfully described. Another dessert, "Dancing Banana," showcases her childlike spirit: by utilizing multiple textures, she combines popping candy with desserts to create a dancing sensation with every bite. Of course, exceptional desserts pair well with outstanding coffee; all the coffee beans in the shop are selected and roasted by Kai-an, including a popular item called "Rock 'n' Yeager," which is an innovative blend of sparkling water and a secret recipe combined with Yeager beans, producing a refreshing new flavor. Still searching for professional French desserts and coffee? Come here for a double satisfaction! "Cuckoo Dessert Café" also plans to integrate local agricultural products from Chiayi and connect with the community, allowing both locals and visitors to taste the unique flavors of "Chiayi"! Recommended dishes: Lemon Crescent, Rock 'n' Yeager.
