CouCou Cafe Pâtisserie

Chiayi Foods

The French dessert shop CouCou, located by the railway, has a name that sounds like the call of a cuckoo and is a friendly greeting in French. Just like "Cuckoo Dessert Café," it aims to create a sense of being neighborly, close, and free from distance. The owners, Zhu Kai-an and Lin Cheng-an, have dreamt of opening a shop since they were young, waiting for the day their dream would come true. Zhu Kai-an previously served as a second mate for Evergreen Marine for three years, where his curiosity about coffee was sparked by the chief mate's hand-brewed coffee. In the monotonous life at sea, coffee became his only solace, leading him to give up a high-paying stable job and leave the ocean to pursue a career in coffee, where he coincidentally met Lin Cheng-an. Lin Cheng-an's interest in making desserts blossomed during her university years. As a student majoring in Visual Communication Design, she self-taught herself dessert-making as a way to relieve stress, which led to the desire to study in France. She then actively prepared by taking French courses, apprenticing in a dessert kitchen, and passing English proficiency tests. After five years of hard work, she finally achieved her goal. A food and travel enthusiast, Lin Cheng-an traveled throughout Europe while studying in France, and the flavorful experiences she recorded during her travels now inspire her dessert designs. Each dessert in the shop is highly praised. For example, "Lemon Crescent" takes the form of a crescent moon made from lemon bubbles, which Lin Cheng-an playfully describes, imagining how the acidity of the lemon makes guests' eyebrows change while enjoying it. Another creation, "Dancing Banana," showcases her childlike spirit: it combines popping candy with desserts to create a multi-layered texture, giving a dancing sensation with every bite. Of course, excellent desserts wouldn't be complete without outstanding coffee to pair with them. The coffee beans in the shop are selected and roasted by Kai-an, with one of the popular items being "Rockin' Yirgacheffe," which is a creative blend of sparkling water mixed with a unique formula and Yirgacheffe beans, producing a refreshing new taste. Are you still searching for professional French desserts and coffee? Come here and enjoy two kinds of satisfaction at once! "Cuckoo Dessert Café" also plans to integrate local agricultural products and connect with the community, allowing both locals and tourists to taste the unique flavors of "Chiayi"! Recommended dishes: Lemon Crescent, Rockin' Yirgacheffe.
