CouCou Cafe Pâtisserie

Chiayi Foods

CouCou, a French dessert shop by the railway, sounds like the call of the cuckoo and is a friendly greeting in French. Just like "Cuckoo Dessert Café," it aims to convey a sense of neighborliness, intimacy, and a lack of distance. The owners, Zhu Kai-an and Lin Cheng-an, have dreamed of opening a store since they were young, waiting for the day to realize that dream. Zhu Kai-an, who worked as a second mate for Evergreen Marine for three years, developed a curiosity about coffee through the hand-brewed coffee of his chief mate. In his monotonous shipping life, coffee became his only solace, leading him to give up his high-paying, stable job, leave the sea, and resolutely dive into the coffee business, where he coincidentally met Lin Cheng-an. Lin Cheng-an's interest in making desserts sprouted during her university days. As a visual communication design major, self-learning dessert-making became her way to relieve stress, which also sparked her desire to study in France. She then actively planned and prepared: taking French classes, apprenticing in dessert kitchens, and preparing for English proficiency tests. After five years of hard work, she finally realized her wish. With a love for food and travel, Lin Cheng-an traveled across Europe during her study in France, and the flavors she experienced during her travels have now become the inspiration for her dessert designs, with each item earning rave reviews. "For instance, 'Lemon Crescent' is shaped like a crescent moon made from lemon bubbles. I imagined how customers' eyebrows would change with the acidity of the lemon," Cheng-an playfully shared. Another dessert, "Dancing Banana," showcases her childlike heart: combining multi-layered textures with popping candy gives a feeling of dancing with every bite. Excellent desserts are, of course, paired with outstanding coffee; all the coffee beans in the shop are carefully selected and roasted by Kai-an. One of the popular items, "Rockin' Yirgacheffe," comes from his creativity—combining sparkling water with a unique recipe and Yirgacheffe beans, creating a burst of refreshing new flavors, making it one of the best sellers in the shop. Still looking for professional French desserts and coffee? Come here to enjoy both satisfactions at once! "Cuckoo Dessert Café" also plans to collaborate with Chiayi agricultural products and connect with the local community, allowing both locals and visitors to savor the unique tastes of "Chiayi!" Recommended dishes: Lemon Crescent, Rockin' Yirgacheffe.
